As we wind down programming for our 2026 community read, The God of the Woods, we want to thank everyone who’s helped to make this such a special year. This book, by Liz Moore, struck a special note for our community, as it takes places so close to home – in the Adirondacks.
Summer is a great time to explore the Adirondacks and all they have to offer. Although the fall foliage won’t set in for a few months, there’s still plenty of attractions for those in our area. Consider some of the following areas – which may be lesser-known to you – to explore:
- Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake – Interactive exhibitions and outdoor activities for visitors of all ages – set on more than 100+ acres
- John Brown Farm & Historic Site – Final resting place of John Brown, abolitionist known for his raid on Harper’s Ferry
- Great Camp Sagamore – Stay for a few hours or a few days
Visit the following with the help of the Library!
CPH library offers Museum Passes – underwritten by CPH Friends – for the following, among many other attractions in our area! These can usually be borrowed for a few days and include up to 4 tickets – at no cost to you!
- Hyde Collection (Glens Falls) – A world-class art museum in upstate New York
- Wild Center (Tupper Lake) – Interact with the natural world in new ways
- Empire Pass – Free vehicle access to most NY State park
In addition to the above, there are also magical little towns to explore as you pass by on your way! You can make a special trip or just pause for a snack along the way – consider a stop at Nettle Meadow Farm‘s Hitching Post & Tavern in Lake Luzerne, Oscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg, or Barkeater Chocolates in North Creek.
Wherever your travels take you this summer, we hope you make special memories along the way!
